Q: Can I bring my children? A: Acorn Glade is an adults only retreat, therefore we encourage guests to enjoy the peace and quiet ambience away from children. Our business insurance prevents us from including under 18s, this is also because we have a lake, which for some children could be dangerous if they are unsupervised.

 

Q: Can I bring my dog? A: We are a local wildlife site and we have to take ecology very seriously. Therefore to encourage nesting Kestrels, Owls, Bats, Geese, Ducks and Moorhens our policy is to kindly ask that you do not bring pets on holiday as they can disturb the natural wildlife.

 

Q: Do all the accommodation have their own toilet? A: Bluebell Log Cabin has its own toilet, which is a ‘green’ composting toilet. There are no toilets in the yurts or Gypsy Wagon, however the amenity block (called “The Chicken Shed”) is less than 50 meters from each accommodation. There you will find toilets and wash rooms for your convenience.

 

Q: What facilities do you have for the disabled? A: Although our site is easily accessible we would point out that we are not fully geared up for full disabled access. There is a semi-ambulant toilet (with shower, toilet, wash basin), however we have no ramps to the amenity block and accommodation. The footpaths are either grassed or have bark chippings and maybe a little uneven.

 

Q: Do you have hot tubs? A: We do not have hot tubs, but what we do have is a wonderful break away from it all at a lovely idyllic setting.

 

Q: Does the accommodation have a TV? A: As all the holiday units are off-grid (only solar electricity), there are no televisions available in the accommodation.

 

Q: Do you have a brochure? A: Acorn Glade is essentially a paperless business and therefore you should find all information, including photographs on our website or via our Facebook page.

 

Q: Is Wi-Fi connectivity available? A: In order for you to relax and unwind, we do not offer wireless connectivity on-site. Of course, you can still use any mobile network connectivity whilst at Acorn Glade (like 3/4G) from your mobile phone hand set. However, we should warn you that due to network coverage in the Vale of York mobile connectivity can be intermittent. This adds to the unique selling point of getting away from it all, including technology.

 

Q: Can I pay a deposit or is it payment in full? A: Our policy is payment in full upon booking.

 

Q: Do you offer fishing? Acorn Glade is a private fishery, exclusive to guests staying with us. The lake is well stocked with still water fish: Carp, Hybrid Carp, Rudd, Golden Rudd, Barbel, Bream, Tench and Eel. Day fishing passes are available upon request at £10 per day.

 

Q: Are you open in January or February? A: We take Poppy & Daisy Yurts down in October as it tends to get a little too cold at night. We put them up again in April when it’s warmer. All of the accommodation we offer have log burners so they all get very toasty when the fires are lit.

We closed down in mid-December and then don’t reopen again until beginning of March. This period allows us to perform site maintenance. Bluebell Log Cabin remains open from now until mid-Dec and reopens next season first week of March.

 

Q: Do you offer gift vouchers for sale? A: We offer gift vouchers for different denominations which are redeemable against the total cost of one of our short breaks (but are subject to accommodation availability).

 

Q: Do you offer 1 or 2 nights stays? A: We currently only offer 3 or 4 night bookings (Fri-Sun or Mon-Thu). The price for 1 or 2 nights is the same as for 3 or 4 nights. We do have many guests that book 3 or 4 nights and then don’t take the final night due to other commitments. Previous guests have found that the beauty of this arrangement is that you have the flexibility to stay as long as you want on your final day, but not stay in the accommodation the final night. For our 2016 season (starting in April) we will have Rose Gypsy Wagon available for folks to book 2 nights or more to therefore give more flexibility to guests.

Q: What's included in the glamping? What do we have access to? A: The cabin has a king size bed and the yurts have double beds. You have log burning stove (with plenty of wood), basic gas ring for tea & coffee, indoor and outdoor seats, etc. The log cabin has a separate composting toilet, but everyone has access to use the communal toilets and showers. The chicken shed kitchen has a fridge and cooking facilities. There is an outdoor communal fire pit and BBQ. You can use the rowing boat, feed the fish, or even do some fishing if you wish. The Melbourne Arms (is our local pub) is great place and serves food and beer, plus it’s only a 10 min walk away. You may want to bring a torch or lantern, wellies and waterproof clothing. Remember, we are a wi-fi free zone, so bring a book or just enjoy the relaxation time.

 

Q: Is Acorn Glade accessible by public transport? A: You can get a train to York and from there we are approx. 11 miles away. From York there is a direct but infrequent bus service to Melbourne. Alternatively you can get a bus to Pocklington and then a taxi to Melbourne (taxi is about £8). Some guests who don’t drive have got a taxi direct from York for about £20. We strongly suggest that you review all bus timetables prior to travelling. The local Melbourne shop, should be able to provide all your grocery needs during your stay. Pocklington (only 5 miles away) has a good range of shops including Sainsburys and Aldi. The Melbourne Arms is only a 10-15 minute walk away and is a great place to eat in the evening.
